This Spring, The North Wall collaborated with our creative associates Ad Infinitum on A New Constellation, a participation project that connected artists with older adults to co-create pieces of art.
Artist Emelia Hutchinson was connected with four older adults – David Broscombe, John Coffin, Avril Lethbridge and Glyn Roberts – and they spoke over the phone every week for four weeks.
Emilia says: “As an artist it has been so freeing to connect with each person and be inspired by them, allowing them the space and time to tell their stories and share their opinions. These four pieces of work range from observations to reflections to protests about what it is that makes these four individuals themselves. It’s been an incredibly heartwarming process and has shown me the joy that comes with age.”
This project, which began during the pandemic in 2021, ran alongside the development of Ad Infinitum’s new production exploring care for older people, If You Fall, which toured to The North Wall in April 2023.
A New Constellation was displayed at The North Wall from 24 April – 6 May 2023. It can now be viewed as a digital exhibition until by clicking the link below:
Participants of A New Constellation have been invited to take part in a legacy project, where the group will meet monthly to enjoy exhibitions and performances and share their stories. Watch this space for more information.
This project was made possible with support from the OCVA Connect Communities Fund.
