This ArtsLab summer residency was run from 12 – 24 July 2021 by theatre-makers Harry Blake and Jennifer Fletcher.
The project brought together an ensemble of performers, designers and technicians to collaborate on the early development of a brand new piece of musical theatre.
About the Project
Mermaids is a new musical about a drama group in a remote Cornish fishing village. The company spent two weeks developing character and exploring the world of the show – this work will inform and inspire its future development. A work-in-progress was performed at The North Wall on Friday 23 & Saturday 24 July 2021.
About Harry and Jen
Harry and Jen are theatre-makers with specialisms in music and movement. They work together to make innovative and contemporary musical theatre that blurs the boundaries between genres and has something to say about the world we live in.
They have collaborated as creatives on a wide range of productions including The Sandman (Southwark Playhouse), THOR & LOKI (HighTide) and The Beggar’s Opera (Storyhouse). Other credits include Captain Corelli’s Mandolin (West End and national tour), As Long as the Heart Beats (National Theatre Wales) and Wild East (Young Vic).
